Spread Indicator

Postby MeiniOz » Wed Nov 24, 2010 6:51 pm

I have created this little indicator that shows a histogram of the prices difference between bid and ask price. Spread can get quite large at times, which may be significant with short-term trading so as to avoid the "bad" times of the day.

This indicator is based on OHLC values so the actual spread could have been somewhat different at times.

I am new to indicator developement and would appreciate any feedback or suggestions.

Cheers
Meini

Thanks Apprentice - good idea. This version shows the maximum spread by default, as it does in your simplified version. But the minimum spread can now be turned on if desired. 8-)

Apprentice, I just noticed that your simplified version does not actually show the spread the way I intended it to. Instead it give us the difference between the minimum and the maximum spread. I am not sure if that is very useful, but I am happy to be convinced otherwise.

Thanks Apprentice.Maybe I can use an example to explain. Please look at the candlestick at the point 1:00 of 2012-11-15 in Picture GBP/USD H4.

I don’t hope to reveal the maximum spread in the candlestick chart, while I would like to mark the price connected to the maximum spread in the candlestick chart. Take the point 1:00 of 2012-11-15 for example, when that the maximum spread is 7.2 happens, the bid and ask price is at the low price of candlestick by chance. Consequently, I hope in the bid pane and ask pane there would be a relevant mark for the lowest point of candlestick which is the point 1:00 of 2012-11-15

i don't know whether you got my point, because English is so hard for me

Unfortunately not.
Try to provide a formula or an image with desired presentation and description.

I understand your intent now,
to have label on main chart, when we have a high spread.
How do you want to determine what high spread is.
Manually by a user or automatically by an algorithm.
If the second, can you describe it.
