I really want to learn coding languages as I feel they are almost crucial in trading and other areas of finance for that matter.
I think this is overstatement.
If you want to trade via the strategy / robot this is true.
But you can be a successful trader this without them.
I have very little CS skills regarding languages, so I'm wondering where a good place to start is. I've heard that starting with Java or C++ is a place to begin.
Should I learn a basic language like C,C++ or Java first, and then learn LUA?
Everything depends on your ultimate goal.
What is your preferred trading platform.
For TS2/ Marketscope C + + knowledge can not hurt,
especially if you will buildstandalone applications using C + + API.
but it's not necessary if you will build MarketScope extensions.
Lua is a standalone programming language that is similar to some, yet it is different.
We have build SDK an extension of Lua that allows you to more easily write code for MarketScope.
Or can I learn LUA first?
If your goal are only indicators and strategys for marketscope, I think Lua is sufficient.
For that u need to learn Lua and SDK.
For lua a good place to start is Book.

For SDK use this forum resources.
