Buy and Sell Volumes

Postby Loggy48 » Thu Dec 29, 2022 10:38 am

I see a couple of indicators* that can be used in Trading Station that attempt to differentiate between long and short positions by volume - ie between buy and sell - but is it possible to access long and short ratios or counts in the real market ratios via the ForexConnect-Python API?

There is nothing in the Offers table for this.

* the indicators are Buy Sell Volume Price Pressure and Long Short Differential Gains.

TIA

Could you provide an example of such indicator? Most likely it just gets a volume of the candle from historical data

That's the problem @Victor.

Neither of the indicators I mentioned accesses long/short volumes yet quite a few platforms (not FXCM) do show the relative number of positions being opened. It is the long/short aka ask/bid or buy/sell volumes, determined by the price of the exchange.

This may only be available on the real rather than derivative market although ISTR IG did show the ratio of derivative trades on their platform some years ago.

The actual buy and sell volumes must be the same as each transaction has 2 counter parties but it depends on the open instruction. eg If a long position is opened, that is a buy action where the price is expected to increase and contributes to the buy volume count even though it will generate a sell action from the counter party, which doesn't count. Conversely a short position opened will generate a sell action and contributes to a sell volume but the counter party buy action also does not count.
